Can a Witch Become a Christian?
Christianity – 08
I had never heard of Kat von D (Katherine von Drachenberg) until I saw on the internet a piece about her baptism in a Christian church—which includes two videos: one of the baptism itself, and one in which she speaks about it. For those who may not know, Kat von D is apparently a public celebrity among tattoo aficionados. Before accepting Jesus as her personal Savior, Kat von D was also a witch, a practitioner of the occult.
Parts of the video of the baptism looked very weird to me, and a closer look revealed why. Many of Kat’s friends attended the church ceremony. Some of them were dressed in the kind of garb associated with believers in the occult. Apparently, they are not Christians. Yet, they attended as a gesture of support for Kat’s decision.
In Kat’s video where she speaks of the experience, let me start by saying that the authenticity of her faith came across to me as unpretentious, humble, and inspired by the Holy Spirit. Without her knowing it, she was describing herself as a newborn Christian, learning to crawl before walking, and walking before running.
Kat said that while popular support for her faith decision was overwhelming, what little vitriol there was, came not from atheists and occultists, but from a small number of people who claim to be Christians. Much of that criticism stemmed from her continuing association with her non-Christian friends. My goodness, one might think that Kat was dining with prostitutes and tax collectors—as Jesus did.
At several points in my life, I encountered people who have what I incorrectly call, “salvation stories.” It seems to me, from these stories, that no two of these stories are alike, and yet, they all share this same, indescribable sense one gets upon hearing them, that what they experienced is genuine. I say, incorrectly, because what the stories are, are about people’s first conscious experience that they are saved, and their first conscious decision to embrace that salvation.
Upon hearing them, I am filled with that sense of halleluja! that all saved people feel, for example perhaps, upon hearing a rendition of the halleluja chorus from Handel’s, Messiah. I think it is the Holy Spirit sharing His sense of rejoicing. One might sense the presence of angels in such a moment.
Why not check it out online and see if you agree with me on this.
